One of the most frequently asked questions is about the name “Postalm”. When Bad Ischl was still the summer residence of the Austrian emperors, there was also an important post office with many stagecoaches and a large number of horses. In the summer, some of the horses were brought to the alpine pasture for summer recreation and so the name “Postalm” came about naturally.
Today the entire area, which includes many alpine pastures such as Lienbachalm, Einbergalm, Wiesleralm, Thoralm, Pitschenbergalm...etc. includes, collectively referred to as “Postalm”.
The Postalm still serves as a summer pasture where not only the horses find relaxation here, but especially cattle. At the beginning of June, over a hundred farmers from Lammertal raise over two thousand young animals. The dairy cows are kept by the dairymaids at the huts and are used for the daily supply of milk, butter and alpine cheese.
