The Postalm is the largest alpine area in Austria.
One of the most frequently asked questions is about the name “Postalm”. When Bad Ischl was still the summer residence of the Austrian emperors, there was also an important post office with many stagecoaches and a large number of horses. In the summer, some of the horses were brought to the alpine pasture for summer recreation and so the name “Postalm” arose automatically. Today the entire area, which includes many alpine pastures such as Lienbachalm, Einbergalm, Wiesleralm, Thoralm, Pitschenbergalm, etc., is collectively known as Called “Postalm”.
